Kindergarten

Going to Kindergarten is such an exciting time- both for kids and their families! The skills built during this crucial time help build a foundation for a lifetime of learning.

Custer Road Christian Day School’s Kindergarten may be the school you’ve been looking for: Outstanding education in a smaller setting, preparing your child for First Grade. See how it stacks up compared to public schools:

What’s the difference?

Our private Kindergarten in Plano is for children turning five before September 1. The children benefit from a smaller class setting in a Christian environment.

The private Kindergarten class is based on the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) from the Texas Administrative Code, including but not limited to Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. Kindergarten TEKS identify the skills and concepts that 5-year-olds are expected to know and be able to do by the completion of the Kindergarten year.
TEKS for Kindergarten are available on the TEA website:

Children who complete Custer Road’s private kindergarten in Plano are eligible to enter First Grade the following year.

  • The class size is a maximum of 12:1.
  • The private Kindergarten class is led by a degreed teacher with expertise in Early Childhood Education who has experience in a kindergarten class and knowledge of the TEKS for Kindergarten in Plano
  • Nationally known reading and math curriculums are used. A number of  local school districts, including Plano, use these same curriculums in their Kindergarten programs.

Our daughter entered as a little preschooler and soon enough learned to read and write on a level we did not expect to see. The phonics drills, lessons and daily reviews had our child reading to the next level by midyear. Mrs. Schafer incorporated in her curriculum every imaginable theme a kid could possibly learn – planets, coin recognition, animals, the environment, etc. Due to a much smaller number of students our daughter, as well as all other kindergarteners, definitely received special attention, which she might not have gotten in a bigger public school class. I cannot imagine a more excellent start for our child’s academic career
